Maintenance Assistant

An opportunity exists for an exceptional Maintenance Assistant to join the school from 1 January 2023.


  • Handyman duties
  • Maintain a good, safe, and secure standard across buildings
  • Ensure job requests concerning maintenance are carried out effectively and timeously
  • Ensure the proper control of spares in store
  • Clean and maintain all equipment
  • Participates in necessary painting and general repairs to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, windows, and general mechanical areas
  • Performs emergency repair services as necessary
  • Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair

Relevant Qualifications and Experience:

  • 5+ years’ in maintenance and building field with detailed experience
  • English (Grade 12) comprehension and writing skills are required in order to understand requisitions, and works instructions, converse with customers and service providers and write basic reports
  • Artisan qualification an advantage
  • Basic Numeracy skills: able to conduct a condition report, to complete HR staff records – at least a literacy level of NQF level of ABET 4, but preferably above
  • A sound work ethic, good people skills, and a positive attitude are important requirements for the job
  • The person also needs to support the Christian ethos of the school
